Project Alfie - Beggin' (Video)

Some sick visuals for the latest release from Project Alfie - the track was featured on the Universal Compilation R&B Collection 2012, which marked him as the only unsigned act to be featured on the album. Following its release, it became the most downloaded track on the album during its first week on iTunes. His Hip-Hop re-works EP was a superb little taster of what he has to offer, but this track sees the London-born singer/songwriter move in the right direction and provide us with a refreshingly cool laid back piece of Soul music. One of the most exciting new artists around right now.

Nova's Basement - Stop Hurting (Video)

Created by Gareth Axford, here are some cool animated visuals for the first single to be taken from Nova's Basement's forthcoming EP, which is set to be released sometime this month. Never heard of the London-based trio before, but this is a lovely track and you can pick up your copy HERE.

Lana Del Rey - This Is What Makes Us Girls

Here is the latest track to leak from Lana Del Rey's highly anticipated forthcoming debut album, Born To Die, which is set to be released on January 31st. Can't decide whether I like this or not, and the American singer/songwriter has a lot of critics to silence with this the release of this LP. There is definitely something hypnotising about her and her music, though. Pre-order HERE.

Robert Glasper & Erykah Badu - Afro Blue (Mongo Santamaria & John Coltrane Cover)

Originally composed by Mongo Santamaria and made famous by John Coltrane, 'Afro Blue' is a bonafide jazz classic. 2012 sees Robert Glasper and Erykah Badu place their own unique spin on this classic for Glasper's upcoming album, Black Radio. RG: "Erykah loves flutes, so I arranged this song with flutes in it. This song was recorded during the time she was on the Rock The Bells tour. Luckily she was able to come in and do the song". Get your copy of his first single HERE.

Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again (Live on BBC Radio 1)

BBC Sound of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka today dropped in to chat to Zane Lowe and play his single 'Home Again' live and acoustic for Zane and BBC Radio 1 listeners. Beating the incredible Frank Ocean, Azealia Banks, Skrillex and Niki & The Dove to the title, hopefully Michael can emulate the success of previous winners such as Adele, Jessie J & Ellie Goulding. Incredible talent.

Delilah - Never Be Another

Produced by Balistiq, here is the latest piece from the wonderful Delilah, who has been getting lots of support from 1Xtra as part of their Hot 20 for 2012 list. Production is tight, her vocals on point as ever and these two continue to push the boundaries when it comes to creating a fresh and unique sound. Love this.

Project Alfie vs. KanYe West - Family Business

Taken me a while to get round to listening to this, but here is my favourite track from Project Alfie's 5-track mixtape, which sees the 25 year old singer/songwriter reworking Hip-Hop Classics by Jay-Z, OutKast, Dr. Dre, NaS and this one from KanYe West. 'Family Business' has always been one of my favourite KanYe songs, but Alfie definitely does it justice by adding his own unique Soul-infused classic style to it and creating a totally fresh sounding track - can't wait to see what he has to offer in 2012. Download the tape HERE.

The House Of Coxhead: Top 100 Songs of 2011

After bringing you the Top 100 Remixes of 2011 on Christmas Eve, here is my Top 100 Songs of 2011. Whereas the majority of the tracks on the remixes list were from an Electronic genre, this list covers a much wider range of music, including Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Folk, Alt Rock, Pop, Grime and more. There will be a distinct lack of songs from Rock/Indie artists, but for those people who follow my blog closely, you will already know that this isn't something that I cover on regular basis anyway. 2011 has been a simply mind-blowing year for music, and putting this list together became a much more difficult task than first planned, because I had to get down to an eclectically selected list of 100 tracks from a 8,500 song playlist. As with the remixes list there will be a few selections that you would/wouldn't have in your list (or higher than I have them), but for me this covers everything positive that has been released in 2011 and the incredibly wide diversity in sound. Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed putting it together over the past 3 months, see you all in 2012 and thank you for your continued support. Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to me (for New Year's Eve)!

Frank Ocean - 4 Tears

Frank Ocean, one of the stars of 2011, recently took to his Tumblr and let go of this short, but brilliant, unreleased piece of music. Can't wait to hear his debut LP next year:

"I just listened to this a few times for myself. Figured maybe some else needed to hear it - it’s called ‘4 tears’."

The House Of Coxhead: Top 100 Remixes of 2011

It's a week before the end of the year, which means it's time for the first of my two 'Top 100 of 2011' lists. This is the Top 100 Remixes of the year, which mainly consists of my favourite reworks from the cream of the crop when it comes to Electronic music, alongside a selection of Hip-Hop/Soul tracks for good measure. When I started to compile my Top 100 Songs in September, I wasn't going to do a remixes list, but then realised how much of a shame it would be to not appreciate the time and effort that has gone into creating all of these songs that have been smashing up our clubs and blessing our ears over the past 12 months. There are some commercially successful remixes in here, along with a few under appreciated remixes and definitely a couple that you will have missed along the way. Granted there may be a few selections that you would/wouldn't have in your list (or higher than I have them), but for me this covers everything positive that has been released in 2011 and the incredibly wide diversity in sound. So yeah, hit the jump to see/listen to all 100 remixes, and hopefully you'll enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed putting the list together.
