The House Of Coxhead: Top 100 Songs of 2011

After bringing you the Top 100 Remixes of 2011 on Christmas Eve, here is my Top 100 Songs of 2011. Whereas the majority of the tracks on the remixes list were from an Electronic genre, this list covers a much wider range of music, including Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Folk, Alt Rock, Pop, Grime and more. There will be a distinct lack of songs from Rock/Indie artists, but for those people who follow my blog closely, you will already know that this isn't something that I cover on regular basis anyway. 2011 has been a simply mind-blowing year for music, and putting this list together became a much more difficult task than first planned, because I had to get down to an eclectically selected list of 100 tracks from a 8,500 song playlist. As with the remixes list there will be a few selections that you would/wouldn't have in your list (or higher than I have them), but for me this covers everything positive that has been released in 2011 and the incredibly wide diversity in sound. Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed putting it together over the past 3 months, see you all in 2012 and thank you for your continued support. Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to me (for New Year's Eve)!

B.O.B. - Play The Guitar (Feat. André 3000)

Following the Lil Wayne featuring lead single, here is the title track from B.O.B.'s sophmore album, which is now available in the US. Bobby Ray does his thing, it's got a cool beat (Salaam Remi) and a catchy chorus, but Andre Benjamin steals the show, as ever. Debut solo album in 2012, please?!

The House Of Coxhead: Top 100 Remixes of 2011

It's a week before the end of the year, which means it's time for the first of my two 'Top 100 of 2011' lists. This is the Top 100 Remixes of the year, which mainly consists of my favourite reworks from the cream of the crop when it comes to Electronic music, alongside a selection of Hip-Hop/Soul tracks for good measure. When I started to compile my Top 100 Songs in September, I wasn't going to do a remixes list, but then realised how much of a shame it would be to not appreciate the time and effort that has gone into creating all of these songs that have been smashing up our clubs and blessing our ears over the past 12 months. There are some commercially successful remixes in here, along with a few under appreciated remixes and definitely a couple that you will have missed along the way. Granted there may be a few selections that you would/wouldn't have in your list (or higher than I have them), but for me this covers everything positive that has been released in 2011 and the incredibly wide diversity in sound. So yeah, hit the jump to see/listen to all 100 remixes, and hopefully you'll enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed putting the list together.

Amin PaYne - A Legend x Midnight Vibrations (Gil Scott-Heron Tribute)

My two favourite tracks from Amin PaYne's latest beat tape, which sees the highly talented producer pay tribute to one of the greatest musicians of all-time, Gil Scott-Heron:

"A tribute to the one and only Gil Scott Heron. All songs are composed using Gil Scott Heron samples and inspiration. Scott Heron passed away May 27th 2011, So it's my pleasure to celebrate his life, his beautiful music and his powerful messages that he gave us by releasing this Tribute this year. Rest In Peace..."

Common & Stevie Wonder - This Is Love (Live @ House Of Blues)

Common performed in front of a sold out crowd at the House Of Blues last night and brought out musical legend Stevie Wonder to share a special moment with him on stage. Two of my favourite artists ever.

Elzhi - Memory Lane (Video)

Elzhi gives the latest track to be lifted from Elmatic some sick visual treatment - music executive and artist manager Jae Barber, also a Detroit native, provides an authentic picture of the world Elzhi revisits in his nostalgic spin on Nas' classic song, Memory Lane. The video includes rare visuals of various artists such as Eminem and Royce da 5'9. Amongst the many artists included are the late Baatin, Proof and J Dilla. Elmatic started out as mixtape, but many people (including myself), believe this is the best Hip-Hop album to be released in 2011. Amazing, just amazing.

Common - The Dreamer/The Believer (Samples)

Today sees the release of Common's ninth studio album, The Dreamer/The Believer, so what better a time to show respect to No I.D., the man behind the boards, by looking at the samples used to create some of these stunning beats. After the jump you will find 8 samples and a link to download them all. A simply incredible album from one of the greatest Rapper/Producer duos of all-time. Get your copy HERE.

Common - Celebrate (Video)

Common unleashes the visuals for my favourite track from his ninth studio album, The Dreamer/The Believer, which you can now pick up HERE. There is no such thing as an instant classic, but if there was, then this has all the elements to be just that. Amazing song, amazing album.
