Sam Smith - Fast Car (Tracy Chapman Cover)
As part of More Music Month on Radio 1, Sam Smith drops into the Live Lounge to perform a cover of Tracy Chapman's classic 'Fast Car'. Words fail me with this man.
SBTRKT - Live @ Maida Vale
Ahead of this weekend’s Reading & Leeds festival, SBTRKT was joined by Ezra Koenig and Sampha yesterday as he performed a three-track session live from Madia Vale for Zane Lowe on Radio 1. Vampire Weekend's Koenig jumped in on a rendition of new single ‘New Dorp New York’, while Sampha guested on ‘Temporary View’. During the session, SBTRKT also aired ‘War Drums’, a track featuring Warpaint that plays out as a bonus cut on the producer’s forthcoming second album Wonder Where We Land. Listen to the session in full after the jump.
Sigma - Changing (Feat. Paloma Faith)
As premiered via special delivery by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1, 'Changing' is the anthemic new single from Paloma Faith and Sigma. I absolutely love Paloma's vocal on this. What a collaboration.
Duke Dumont - Won't Look Back
As Duke Dumont continues to place himself at the forefront of the House music resurgence taking place in this country, he's decided to drop a brand new tune that won't disappoint those enjoying the dance revival. Entitled 'Won't Look Back', the track, which recieved its first air-play on Radio 1 last night, combines big room 90s vocals with a catchy piano-led beat and the kind of soul rarely seen in today pop's music. Future number one material? I wouldn't be suprised...
Radio 1's Residency announces massive new additions
Following on from their re-launch in January, BBC Radio 1's Residency today announced two new DJs, and welcomed back two favourites from In New DJs We Trust last year. Main room superstars Tiesto and Martin Garrix are the new additions, with Simon Patterson and Brodinski re-joining for their second stint behind the decks. You can catch the Residency every Thursday @ 9pm and 12am.
Banks - Are You That Somebody / Brain
It's not very often I post 2 Live Lounge sessions in one day, let alone one after the other, but Banks' acoustic renditions of her own single 'Brain' and Aaliyah's 'Are You That Somebody' are quite simply too good to leave out. Stunning.
Duke Dumont - My Love / Hideaway
Duke Dumont joined Fearne Cotton in the Radio 1 Live Lounge yesterday to perform new single 'I Got U' & a very special mystery cover. Fusing together Route 94′s 'My Love' with Kiesza’s 'Hideaway' Duke was joined by vocalists Kellie Leigh and Moni Tivony, as they performed over a beat lifted from the producer's 2013 remix of HAIM’s 'Falling', in one of the best Live Lounge performances I've heard in a long while. Further proof that being a dance act doesn't mean your live performances have to be confined to DJ sets.
Hot Natured - Benediction (Lxury Remix)
As Hot Natured announce their intention to re-release their anthemic hit track from 2012 'Benediction', Ali Love and up and coming producer Lxury stop by Radio 1 to offer up Lxury's brand new remix of the track as a special delivery on Annie Mac's Friday night show. Love this.
Jasper James - Listen To My Buttons
Premiered on Skream & Benga's late night Radio 1 show Glaswegian Techno producer and flat-mate of Jackmaster Jasper James comes through with a huge new record that you can expect to hear being played out in clubs across the country very soon. Serious 4am vibes.
