Goodbye Mike

Forgot to post this the other day. As well all know, Mike Skinner released his last album as The Streets this week, but before signing off he dropped into the XFM studios to do a spectacular little live session to show us that he’s still got it. He did two tracks from the new album and two all-time classics. Below you can hear a monstrous version of Blinded By The Lights and HERE you can download the whole session. Liam Bailey

For those of you who don’t know who Liam Bailey is; he is the guy that is featured on the new Chase & Status track, Blind Faith. The other day he did an acoustic session for Soul Culture in Camden Town, which simply blew me away. First he performed his own track, I Belong, which is produced by the brilliant Salaam Remi and will feature on his forthcoming LP. He then did a cover of version of one of my favourite Etta James songs; I’d Rather Go Blind. This guy has incredibly amounts of talent, and then some.

Yasmin @ Maida Vale

You all know who Yasmin is now, right? Well she popped into Maida Vale the other day and recorded a four track session for Mistajam and the 1Xtra team. She performed the debut single, On My Own. Her own version of Runaway, which (for me) is better than both Alicia’s ‘Empire State Of Mind’ and Rihanna’s ‘Love The Way Lie’. A mash up of Willow Smith’s ‘Whip Your Hair’ and Aaliyah’s ‘Back & Forth’ and an exclusive performance of ‘Finish Line’, which is produced by the ever brilliant Labrinth. I was fortunate enough to hear the Labrinth track last month and was blown away by it then. Seems like everything is coming together now and it’s been a pleasure being able to see her grow over the past year. Below you can hear Runaway & Finish Line, and also download all four performances. Onwards & upwards.

Example - Radio 1's Big Weekend (Live Lounge)

Example was at Radio 1’s Big Weekend today and performed on the In New Music We Trust stage, before heading over to the Live Lounge Area with Mr. Sheldrake & Mr. Stewart. Firstly they did the new single ‘Kickstarts’, followed by a superb cover of Dominoes by Big Pink.
