Last month I was introduced to a Hip-Hop crew from San Francisco called Y Not Flow, by a good friend of mine, Andy Sheldrake. Although I'd never heard their work before, I was blown away by their style, presence on the mic & raw talent from the moment I clicked play on their incredible 2011 mixtape 'Welcome To H.E.L.L. (Hears Every Last Lyric)'. Nothing about their music conforms to the norm and has a distinctive 90s old skool flavour to it, which is very reminiscent of groups such as Black Sheep, Brand Nubian & the whole Native Tongues posse. Another man who's fallen in love with their work is singer/songwriter David Stewart, who has decided to do a remix of 'Bonfires & Seashells', which is being streamed exclusively here for the next few days and is available for free download in the player below. David keeps the original vibe of the track intact, but adds his own unique style, with a brand new hook/chorus that sounds like an infectious piece of Swing from the 60s. On the surface YNF & David couldn't be further apart, but they have come together to bring us a completely fresh piece of music to bump; so hit the jump, click play/download and enjoy. Big year ahead for both acts.
After bringing you Part 1 last week, here is Part 2 of my Sound Of 2013 list, which is a list of artists who I believe have big things ahead of them in the next 12 months. Check out Part 1 HERE, and be sure to do your research on all 10 artists - you'll thank me later.
After getting its world premiere on Mistajam's show the other night, David Stewart has tonight dropped off the visuals for the lead single from his forthcoming debut solo project 'Late Night Viewing'. The free album features Example, Ed Sheeran, Yasmin & Wretch 32, is dropping tomorrow around midday and the first review in the world will be on this site right here. Big.
Premiered last night on Mistajam's show, here is the lead single from David Stewart's forthcoming debut mixtape/EP 'Late Night Viewing'. As Jam explains, the vibe is very similar to that of The Weeknd, but for me David is a much better songwriter than the Canadian R&B crooner. Production is tight, lyrics are hot (literally) and the vocals allow you to get lost in the music. Can't wait to hear the full EP - coming soon...
Uploaded to his YouTube channel earlier today, here is the first preview to surface from David Stewart's forthcoming debut solo project 'Late Night Viewing', which is set for a free release next month.
Here is the latest edition in David Stewart's series of covers. This time round he has tackled the exceptional A-Team, which is out in less than a month's time. David had to make it his own, and that is exactly what he did, producing an brilliantly unique twist on what is likely to be one of THE songs of 2011.
David Stewart is putting the work in right now with these covers. This week he has decided to take on a mash-up of two of my favourite Frank Ocean songs, Swim Good & Novocain. I'm a massive fan of the upcoming Odd Future star and I love what David has done with this cover. Download HERE.
