As part of his Biz session for The Sun, Ed Sheeran decided to cover Skinny Love by Bon Iver, which was recently made commercially well-known by Birdy. I know Ed has been a Bon Iver fan for years, so this cover will have meant a lot, and I think it's safe to say that he did it justice (as always). Watch the rest of the session, HERE. A-Team is out in 3 days. Download the MP3 of Skinny Love HERE.
Tonight saw Mistajam and Zane Lowe present a piece of history in the form of Nero's Dubstep Symphony. As the name implies, it saw Dubstep duo Nero team up with the BBC's Philharmonic Orchestra to perform their well-known hits in a completely unique classical style. A couple of hundred lucky people got the chance to watch the performance live at the new Salford based BBC studios, but thankfully it was broadcast for the rest of us on Radio 1/1Xtra, and through the Radio 1 webcam. Jam & Zane are forever pushing the boundaries, and this was no exception - who ever thought you would see a Dubstep duo performing with a full Orchestra? I know I didn't, and I truly believe that this is one of the greatest pieces that the BBC has ever broadcast, which is why I have taken the time to provide you all with the MP3. I was going to split them up, but for me it's imperative that you listen to it from start to finish. Enjoy and download, HERE. New levels, and a new genre - Orchestep.
Earlier today Example dropped into the Maida Vale studios to perform his latest single, Changed The Way You Kiss Me, and a cover of the lead single from the Arctic Monkeys' new album, Suck It And See. CTWYKM is out NOW and smashing the iTunes chart to pieces. Download both MP3s HERE.
Following on from his session for Zane Lowe the other night, Ed Sheeran dropped into the Manchester based XFM studio to perform 5 tracks; including A-Team, UNI, Wake Me Up, Wayfaring Stranger & You Need Me. As Ed said himself, it's refreshing for a radio station to let him perform a small set, rather than squashing him in to a small booth to do just one or two tracks. Below you can hear one of the best performances of You Need Me that he's done, and you can download the entire session HERE. Onwards & upwards.
Ed Sheeran took time out from his current UK tour to drop into the Maida Vale studios to perform a live session for Zane Lowe and have a rather in-depth chat about things musical; from him upcoming debut album, to the influences he gained through long road trips from Yorkshire to London with his Mum and Dad as a child. Whilst at the famous studios he performed a small snippet of You Need Me, an ever brilliant rendition of his debut single The A-Team and an incredibly unique cover of the theme tune for his favourite TV show, The Wire, which you can hear below. You can also download all 3 MP3s HERE to add to your collection.
As part of Bob Marley week on Radio 1, Yasmin and Wretch 32 dropped in to the Live Lounge to perform two uniquely spectacular covers with a little help from the brilliant Vula Malinga and Sharlene Hector. You can listen to both covers below and download the MP3s HERE. R.I.P. Bob.
Earlier today Chase & Status dropped into the Maida Vale studios with the beautiful and ridiculously talented Delilah. Whilst they were there they performed a stripped back version of their new single Time (with Saul on the ol' geetar) and an exceptional cover of a Foo Fighters track from their new album, Wasting Light. You can download the MP3s for both HERE. These guys never cease to amaze me, and Delilah keeps getting better and better.
Aloe Blacc dropped into Maida Vale this morning to do a little live lounge session for Trevor Nelson. While he was there he performed I Need A Dollar and Loving You Is Killing Me, but it was his cover of 99 Problems that stole the show. This is just another example of why he is one of my favourite artists right now; way too cool. He is like a modern day James Brown.
Earlier today Example joined Wretch 32 in the live lounge studio to perform their new single Unorthodox, which is currently sitting at number 1 in the midweek chart. Wretch also performed a brilliant cover of Adele’s critically acclaimed hit, Someone Like You, putting a whole new twist on the meaning of the song. You can listen to both below and download HERE.
