So yeah, whilst everyone is raving on about Cole World leaking, this is the Hip-Hop album that I've been been excited to hear most this year. For those of you who don't know who Phonte is, he was 1/3 of Little Brother and is 1/2 of The Foreign Exhange, but Charity Starts At Home sees 'Te go solo for the first time in his career. Not many artists can claim to have a flawless discography, but Phonte does; he has this incredibly unique ability to go from creating the most soothing R&B music to spitting some of the most ferocious bars you are ever likely to hear, with consumate ease. Here are two of my favourite tracks from one of the most highly anticpated Hip-Hop albums of the past 10 years. Lots of people were expecting Cole to fail with his debut album, but with the amount of talent he has and with Jay as his mentor, that was never going to happen really, was it? Cole World: The Sideline Story finally drops September 27th - definitely worth the wait.
Following the Elzhi featuring lead single, here is another piece of 9th Wonder produced music from Phonte's debut solo album, Charity Starts At Home. Most people are excited for September 27th because of Cole World, but I'm just as (if not more) excited for this release, from one of my favourite artists of all-time. FE all day baby.
After his massive re-work of DJ Fresh's number one single last weekend, Random Impulse has now decided to take Example's chart topping Changed The Way You Kiss Me and put his own unique twist on it. Season 3 of the re-fix series has started with a bang, and I only expect it to get better, so do yourself a favour and subscribe to his YouTube channel NOW.
With the impending release of The Elmatic Instrumentals, DJ Premier took some time to check out the new interpretations of some of his classic productions, as covered by Detroit band Will Sessions. After explaining the background behind the beat for Memory Lane, he's predictably impressed with the new instrumental versions for Represent and Detroit State of Mind. This is amazing. The Elmatic Instrumentals will be released worldwide on September 27 on CD, 180g Vinyl, and digital formats.
Novemember 13th will mark the seventh anniversary of the death of Wu-Tang/Hip-Hop legend, Ol' Dirty Bastard, who sadly passed away two days before his 36th birthday in a recording studio owned by his first cousin and fellow legend, The RZA.
