Jamiroquai - Smile

Jamiroquai's last album kind of slipped under the radar, without a US release or any sort of recognition in this country. However, the other day he took to his Soundcloud and let loose this free jam, which for me is more enjoyable than anything that was on the last album. Reminds of the good old days. More of this please, J.

Poldoore - Greenwood

My favourite track from Poldoore's debut Cold Busted release, L.A.X., which will be available to buy on July 13th. Mixing together Dub, Trip-Hop, Funk & Soul, he has created a sound that won't sound out of place at any BBQ this Summer. Jam.

Booker T. Jones - Down In Memphis

My favourite piece from the new Booker T. Jones album, The Road From Memphis, which is produced by Jones with help from ?uestlove and Rob Schnapf - the album was recorded by Daptone Records mastermind Gabriel Roth with backing by The Roots. The Road from Memphis refers not only to Booker T’s journey but to the evolution of the soul music he helped invent as it traveled from Memphis to Detroit, Philadelphia and beyond. This track sees a rare vocal from Jones himself offering a first-hand look at his hometown. Real music.

A lovely electro-funk remix of Oh My!'s debut single, Run This Town, courtesy of TMS. Have a feeling that these girls have a very bright future ahead of them. They have a lots of raw talent and are surrounded by the right people.

Kelly Price - And You Don't Stop

The first two singles from Kelly Price’s upcoming album are both brilliant, but this new track that leaked today has something very special about it. Sounds like a 70s/80s throwback that wouldn’t sound out of place next to Luther or Earth, Wind & Fire. So much love for this.

Don't Take Away My Funk

Here is a percolating old-school groove from Bootsy Collins, which features his late guitarist brother Phelps “Catfish” Collins and soul man Bobby Womack and is the first single from Tha Funk Capitol of the World, Bootsy’s first album in five years. Can’t find the MP3 for love nor money, so you will have to stream it HERE for now. Hit the jump to hear more about the album and to see the tracklist, which includes Snoop Dogg, Jimi Hendrix, Musiq Soulchild & many more. This will be massive.

Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer and legendary bassist Bootsy Collins, known worldwide for pioneering funk music with James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic, will release his first new album in five years, ‘Tha Funk Capitol of the World,’ April 26 on Mascot Records.

Collins collaborated with fellow P-Funkers George Clinton and Bernie Worrell on the record, along with an all-star lineup of musicians and cultural luminaries including rappers Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, and Ice Cube; actor Samuel L. Jackson; banjo phenom Bela Fleck; the Rev. Al Sharpton; scholar Dr. Cornel West; and guitarists Buckethead and Catfish Collins - Bootsy’s late brother. Engineered in part by Dan Monti (Guns n Roses, Metallica), the album also features a tribute to Garry Shider, the late guitarist and musical director of the P-Funk All-Stars.

The album’s 16 tracks are sonically rooted in Bootsy’s earth-shaking party grooves, but songs like “Freedumb” and “Minds Under Construction” reveal higher ambitions. “There are real messages on this album that I wanted to share,” explains Collins, whose soul-deep rhythms and layered melodies are punctuated by lyrics that range from meditations on the nature of truth and spiritual transcendence, to blissed-out joy.

Collins is a singularly influential bassist. His star-shaped “Space Bass” and the driving grooves he produced with it have become synonymous with modern funk and inspired everyone from The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus to NWA and OutKast. Aside from his seminal work with James Brown and George Clinton, Collins achieved considerable success as a frontman for several groups, including Bootsy’s Rubber Band, which recorded the #1 hit single “Bootzilla” and “I’d Rather Be With You.” More recently, Collins collaborated with Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek for 2009′s “Internet Connection.” In 2010, Bootsy was awarded Bass Player Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

More album details and tour dates will soon be announced.

Visuals for Ben Westbeech’s latest single, Falling. One of the most under-rated artists in this country. This has a definite Jamiroquai feel to it. I love it.

Mothership x In Every Way

Here are two little beauties, which are taken from a new (modern) 18 track compilation based on groove fundamentals such as 80’s and 90’s R&B, Minneapolis funk and early electro. It features ‘74 minutes of dirty g-funk bangers, sweaty robot grooves, cosmic p-funk bombs and anthems of intergalactic existentialism’. This is everything I love about music, and more - it connects the dots between electro, rap, house and R&B and is an is equally recommended for fans of funk past, present and future. Both of these show the diversity of what is on there. Fucking BOOM!
