After hearing the Julio Bashmore remix, we've now been treated to the Wookie rework of Bobby Womack's "Love Is Gonna Lift You Up", the original of which is taken from his recently released album The Bravest Man In The Universe. The funky house-infused beat compliments Bobby's timelessly brilliant and soulful voice exceptionally - absolutely love what he's done here, a fantastic and diverse alternative to an already wonderful track. Bobby Womack to embark on World Tour

After recently being given the all clear from prostate and colon cancer, Bobby Womack has announced that he plans on doing a world tour in the near future to promoted his first album in 18 years 'Bravest Man In The Universe'. During an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row programme he revaled that he has had pneumonia twice and suffered collapsed lungs, but was "feeling better, even though there is still a long way to go". He continued; "They keep telling me one step at a time, one day at a time - but I am planning on going around the world and letting these people know what soul singing really was about". I saw Bobby play last year after he had been cleared of cancer for the first time, and he wasn't in a good way, so hopefully this time around he'll make sure he's fully recovered before embarking on a world tour. Bobby Womack - Love Is Gonna Lift You Up

After having surgery and being cleared of his illness last month, Bobby Womack, the King of Soul, is now ready to drop his new album 'Bravest Man In The Universe'. The album is his first release in over 18 years and is produced entirely by Richard Russell & Damon Albarn - it has a much more modern and edgy feel to it, which is very remeniscent of Gil Scott's 'I'm New Here'. Hopefully this isn't Bobby's last body of work though, because it's pretty damn special and he clearly still has a lot to offer. June 11th is the date - THIS IS MY JAM!!!

Bobby Womack fighting for his life in hospital

This is not what I wanted to wake up to on a beautiful Sunday morning. BET have today announced that the legendary Bobby Womack has been hospitalised with a bout of pneumonia - fellow music icon Bootsy Collins revealed to fans on Twitter, that the 68 year old singer/songwriter was ailing and asked that fans send their prayers and well wishes to Womack. "Funkateers, send prayers & love vibes up for Bobby Womack. He is fighting pneumonia in the hospital now. Will update after I talk to him," Collins tweeted.

Bobby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart (Prod. Damon Albarn)

After seeing Bobby Womack perform in concert just before Christmas, it was clear he was not in a good way following his battle with prostate cancer, but it's amazing to hear that he has new material on the way. 'Please Forgive My Heart' is the lead single from Bob's forthcoming album 'The Bravest Man In The World', which has been co-produced by Damon Albarn & Richard Russell and will be his first LP since 'Resurrection' in 1994. There are bound to be comparsions to Gil Scott's 'I'm New Here' & 'We're New Here', but to me it sounds like the King (Godfather is already taken) of Soul has created something totally unique and fresh, which is all I would expect from one of the greatest artists to walk the planet.
