Bobby Womack fighting for his life in hospital
This is not what I wanted to wake up to on a beautiful Sunday morning. BET have today announced that the legendary Bobby Womack has been hospitalised with a bout of pneumonia - fellow music icon Bootsy Collins revealed to fans on Twitter, that the 68 year old singer/songwriter was ailing and asked that fans send their prayers and well wishes to Womack. "Funkateers, send prayers & love vibes up for Bobby Womack. He is fighting pneumonia in the hospital now. Will update after I talk to him," Collins tweeted. Suffering from shortness of breath Womack was forced to cancel a show in Houston earlier this month. This ailment is the latest for the award-winning crooner who has suffered from prostate cancer and struggled with drug abuse. After years of inactivity following the release of two under the radar singles in the 1990s, the Cleveland, OH born musician, who wrote the Rolling Stone’s first hit "It’s All Over Now," has been active of late promoting his first album in over a decade, The Bravest Man in Universe. Womack teamed with Damon Albarn, front man for the Gorillaz and Blur, to record the project after the British singer-songwriter reached out to him several years ago. The first single from the LP is the soulful "Please Forgive My Heart," where Womack’s voice still sounds as earnest as ever. The Bravest Man in the Universe is set to be released in June.
