Dream In

Fantastic Farewell is the debut album from Japanese Jazz Pianist, Kan Sano, who graduated from Jazz composition major of Berklee college of music. The album showcases his production chops as a soloist in this beat science scene. Presenting more soul than experimental, you get to hear much of the classics and standards that are often overlooked in this day and age - it also allows for him to showcase his prowess on keys. The attention to detail prevails, but that’s par of the course for trained jazz musicians. Listen to my favourite track below and get your copy HERE.

Fresh Air x Fast & Loose

Foreign Legion is a Hip-Hop duo from California who a very well known and respected in the underground scene. This year they have returned with their newest offering, Night Moves. The Oakland based duo took some time off after their previous release to work on various ventures, away from the group. They have re-connected in the studio and the result is a 13 track opus that finds the group as focused and hungry as ever. Contributions from G Koop, Rashaan Ahmad, Grandpa J, Intr0Beatz, DJ Flip  & DJ Buzz help give the album a sound that is well worth listening to over and over. Below are two of my favourite tracks, which sum up an album which has the perfect for summertime - support good music.

P.S. if you don’t know the sample in Fresh Air, then you need a slap.

Now And Again

Here is one of my favourite tracks from Michael Hayes’ (better known as Senpai) debut album, Steps That I Take. He is a producer from New York who plays the piano/keyboard, clarinet, sax and has taken influences from the likes of Nujabes, Emancipator and Shin-Ski to produce an incredibly unique and fresh sound. Below is my favourite track, which features vocals from Bill Hennings.

Always

Classic Joints is a compilation of selections, fan favorites and unreleased music from Kev Brown’s exceptional body of work. If you know Kev, you will know that he’s an extremely talented and humble producer/rapper, as well as a pretty generous dude. He’s sharing with us a selection of songs that he has made in the past 10 years including tracks with Busta Rhymes, Grap Luva as well as his Low Budget Crew. Below is one of my favourite tracks from his debut album, I Do What I Do, which is still to this day one of the best producer/rapper albums of all-time. Download your copy HERE.

Vanity

Initially available as a low-quality download from Blu’s myspace, Her Favourite Colour has finally been mixed and mastered. With love-themed movie quotes drifting in and out and Blu’s heartbreak raps sitting atop his own mellow production, HFC is the most distinct and cohesive project Blu has released to date. Below is my favourite track, you can get your copy HERE.

Detroit State Of Mind

Another new track from an ex-Slum Villager, but this time it’s Elzhi, who for me is one of the best/most under-rated MC’s of the past 10 years. Consistently churning out top quality music here is an example of what you can come to expect on May 10th when he releases Elmatic, which is a re-worked version of NaS’ classic debut album. Risky business, but he seems to be smashing it.

Rocket

Here is a brand new track from Saul Williams’ follow up to his Trent Reznor produced album, The Inevitable Rise And Liberation Of Niggy Tardust. Slated for a Spring release, this has got me very excited to hear the rest of the forthcoming LP. Spotted over @ SKOA.
