Sven Wunder - Take A Break

Like a cross-between Nujabes, SAULT and Henry Mancini - the best compliment that can be paid to Swedish producer Sven Wunder, whose album 'Late Again' blew my socks off this year. Classed as a jazz-soul album, but you can really feel the hip-hop production inspiration, and it makes for the most calming and enjoyable listens of the year. Check it out here.

One of the most stunning pieces of music I've heard over the past few months - this song is taken from Danish artist ML Buch's debut album 'Suntub'. Bas - Yao Ming

Produced by Lydia Kitto, Joe Harrison and Linde Jay (the JUNGLE crew), this is one of the standout track from Dreamville's first signee Bas' new album 'We Only Talk About Real Shit When We're Fucked Up'. Accompanied by a simple but great video, this tune is my favourite kind of hip-hop - soulful, warm production, with a laid-back flow. Yao Ming forever.

HYPNOSIS THERAPY - SEOUL HOUSE (Feat. 이윤정)

Hypnosis Theraphy are a South Korean duo, whose music I came across courtesy of Derrick Gee. Their new album 'PSILOCYBIN' is one of the best things I've listened to this year - beautifully chaotic, it manages to move between deep house, footwork, drum & bass, rock, and more, all while retaining a style and a vibe, which is completely unique and quite simply perfect. A beautiful instrumental hip-hop flip of Cleo Sol by Canadian producer Datsunn, of a track taken from her incredible 2021 album 'Mother'... so beautiful, warm and comforting. Cleo sounds great on any style of music, but works especially well with this style of chopped instrumental hip-hop. Available to download or buy on Bandcamp here.

Danny Brown - Y.B.P. (Feat. Bruiser Wolf)

This is one of my favourite songs that I've listened to all year... taken from Danny Brown's latest album 'Quaranta' on Warp Records, it's one of the most Detroit things you could ever wish to hear, in every sense. The whole album feels like a whole new side of Danny, and is arguably his finest body of work to-date. A must-listen.

Blu & Nottz - Marcus Garvey (Feat. Shad + Quelle Chris)

A dream line-up of hip-hop artists on one record... Shad and Quelle Chris lend their skills and unique vibes to the lead single from Blu & Nottz's forthcoming collaborative album called 'Afrika'. We've been following Blu since around 2007, and he's most definitely one of the most consistent and lyrically refreshing rappers in the underground scene. Cannot wait for this album.

Puma Blue - Hounds

The House of Coxhead is mostly about new music, but sometimes the word 'new' can mean just discovered. On my mission to listen to an album every day, I came across Puma Blue (Jacob Allen) for the first time; a London-based artist, whose music is like nothing I've heard before. There is a real depth, in every sense, to both the production and the lyrics on the new album 'Holy Waters' from September. My favourite from the album was 'Hounds', which actually dropped over a year ago. So happy to have this in my life.

The Blessed Madonna, JOY (Anonymous) & Danielle Ponder - Carry Me Higher

Ever since The Blessed Madonna dropped it in her Boiler Room in Bali a few months ago, it's safe to say that 'Carry Me Higher' has been one of the most-wanted IDs around. A seriously uplifting and euphoric moment, which you can hear working on so many dancefloors around the world. TBM, Joy (Anonymous) and Danielle Ponder simply got everything right with this one.
