Lonely C, Soul Clap’s mutated vocoder single finally has a fitting video, complete with existential angst filled robots. Directed By Dan Hellmann. Spotted over @ Discobelle.
Here is the spectacular new Oliver $ single which will be released on Made To Play’s sub-label, Play It Down. Sampling one of Moodymann’s inspirational impromptu DJ set speeches and employing a simple, thumping bassline, it narrates the more intimate moments of being out in a club. There are only going to be 200 vinyls made available, so make sure you get one if you like it. This man has always been one of my favourite House producers, and this track is the perfect example of why - can’t wait for his upcoming full length LP. Genius.
Here is the title track from Footprintz new EP, Utopia, which was released on Visionquest this Monday. As the release notes explain; sounding like Hot Chip in paradise, Hercules in a new Love Affair with a euphoric LCD Soundsystem, Utopia is the first step in a great musical journey for this magnetic partnership. Charming guitar led melodies strung out over blissful poetic lyrics and dreamy synths, Utopia is the embodiment of its definition. Beautiful stuff.
Here are two of my favourite tracks from Katy B’s debut album, On A Mission, which will be released on April 4th. I was excited to hear it, but didn’t expect it to be this strong - she sounds amazing on every single track, no matter whether it’s over Garage, House or Dubstep. The production is flawless and she is just a breath of fresh air to the scene. I need to see her live this year and will definitely be getting a copy of this when it’s available. One of my favourite releases of the year so far - bravo Miss B.
Last week I downloaded a track called Lovesick by newcomer Mariella; I liked it, however this week a remix by Mark de Clive-Lowe has surfaced putting a whole new twist on the song. Soulful house at its very best. Time for a quick 2-step.
After hearing this towards the end of last year, I had a feeling that it was going to be pretty spectacular when finished - I was right. Having now seen it live twice and having heard the final version, I think it’s safe to say that CTYKM has all the right ingredients to be the song of Summer 2011, in the same way that Kickstarts was last year. Oh, and the 3rd album is going to be called ‘Playing In The Shadows’. Proud, as always.
I used to be a massive fan of John Dahlback, but my music taste (house-wise) has changed a lot of the past 12 months and he hasn’t been releasing his best material. However, this new single featuring Terri B is a lovely return to form for man from Sweden.
Here are my two favourite tracks from Bulgarian producer Stan Kolev’s new artist album, Grace Light, which was released today on Unreleased Digital. This isn’t usually my kind of thing, but it has a very Deadmau5-ey feel to it (from the Random Album Title days), which in my eyes is still a classic Electronic album. If you like what you hear on these two pieces, then I think you should go and get yourself the album, because it definitely won’t disappoint. Pleasantly surprised after my first listen.
Heard about Joash a while ago on Gilles Peterson’s show, and have fallen in love with his music ever since - he is a London based producer who started his career as a drummer. The sound he has gone for on the album is surprisingly silver shimmering nu-electronica. If you know the Penguin CafΘ Orchestra from their most successful period of the early Eighties, perhaps this music can be described as the repetitive 2011 modern electronic version of P.C.O. After the jump you can also hear a couple more lovely releases that have caught my eye.
