Soul Clap - Take It Slow (Feat. Franceska) x Need Your Lovin (Feat. Mel Blatt)

Eli Goldstein & Charlie Levine, better known as Soul Clap, are finally set to release their highly anticipated debut album on April 20th, after they shot into the spotlight back in 2010. However, the Boston duo have been at it for years, throwing parties around their home town, most notably a Wednesday night series called Midweek Techno, which hosted dozens of DJs from around the world at an Irish pub in Cambridge. Below are two of my favourite pieces from the 13 track LP, which is full of unreleased material that is completely different to anything they’d usually put on their EPs. As they explain: "we wanted it to be something we would have put on in high school while we were chilling with homies, cutting class, or trying to kick it to a chick". Slow and sexy wins the race.

Next To You

Here is Soul Clap’s remix of Locussolus’s ‘Next To You’, which can be found on their collaborative mixtape for DJ Kicks, which they have put together with their record label owners and good friends, Wolf + Lamb. The four DJs behind this mix (Wolf + Lamb’s Gadi Mizrahi and Zev Eisenberg, Soul Clap’s Cnyce and Elyte) recognised it as an opportunity to offer a pretty definitive look at their style. On a basic level, these guys make slow-burning, steamy house music but round it out with elements from hip-hop, R&B, and vintage pop - breakbeats, rave-y vocal snatches, and funk samples split time with warm, undulating synth and bass. Beautiful stuff, which is available for you to buy now.

Lonely C

A lovely new offering from Boston duo Soul Clap, who are two of the coolest and most talented men in music. Listen to the track below and hit the jump to hear what Wolf & Lamb have to say about the newest edition of !K7′s classic DJ Kicks series, that they and Soul Clap are putting together, and will be released on March 20th. EXCITING!

“When !K7 approached the four of them to do a DJ Kicks mix, the initial idea was do it as Wolf + Lamb versus Soul Clap. It wasn’t long before they realized something more collaborative was where their heads were at. Eli explains: “So much of the power of the music we do comes from the idea that we’re a collective, even expanding beyond the four of us to acts like No Regular Play and Nicholas Jaar that come under the Wolf + Lamb label umbrella. Performing together is our strength.” Gadi continues: “Yeah, the concept for this mix was originally that going to be to use our favourite tracks from the last two years —y’know, classic stuff — but then we thought it might be a stronger idea to do something that was about our world. We have such a strong sense of collective about the way we do things at the Marcy Hotel and on the Wolf + Lamb label. It’s very loose and we bring all our artists together and we kind of play it by ear and the vibe is very chilled out and deep. We figured if we could bring that to a mix and keep it in the family, with people who’ve released on the label we would have something special.”
