Hip-Hop Classic #7: A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation (Chosen by Twin B)

'Electric Relaxation' is the second single from A Tribe Called Quest's third studio album, Midnight Marauders, which was released in 1993 on Jive Records. The track contains a sample of 'Mystic Brew' by Ronnie Foster, and the beat is most notable for being a three bar loop, which is very uncommon in Hip-Hop - along with 'Lyrics To Go', this was one of the first instances of such production. Although this single didn't recieve great commercial success, 'Award Tour' (the lead single) reached #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and the album reached #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and #8 on the Billboard 200. The album has a superb concept which brings a beautiful sense of cohesion to the project as a whole, and the vibe of 'Electric Relaxation' opitimises everything that Q-Tip, Phife Dawg & Ali Shaheed are about.

Twin B: "One of the best tracks from the greatest Hip-Hop group of all-time"
