Introducing: The Golden Boy

Earlier this month I caught up with Dominic Hammonds, better known as The Golden Boy, who's had a huge breakthrough 12 months - including Pete's Tong's Essential New Tune, playing alongside MK and now releasing his new single on Eton Messy Records. An extremely talented producer, with a real ear for an infectious groove and vocal. Check out what Dom had to say after the jump and get your copy of 'The Promise' HERE.

1. For those who don't know you, who is The Golden Boy?

Dominic Hammonds from Stoke On Trent, currently residing in Birmingham!

2. Growing up, what/who was your biggest musical influence and why?

I used to listen to all sorts. Mainly Rock & Indie. However always had a love for electronic music. Artists like Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, LCD Soundsystem & Daft Punk were big favorites of mine. When I moved to Birmingham to go to university, I found a love for house and drum & bass. 

3. Away from Dance music, what/who has stood out for you and inspired you when making music this year?

I always tend to buy albums to listen to in the car. Give me a bit of a break from kick drums! I've had the Jungle & Kelis albums on rotation all year. The Jessie Ware album is also wicked as well.

4. When in the studio, what is the usual process for making a Golden Boy track? What comes first? In what order?

Depending on the type of track i'm making. If its more of a club track I always find a sound or sample to base the track around and then build the drums, bass etc. If i'm writing more of a song based track i'd write the melody on a piano fpr the vocals then start looking for sounds that work with them.

5. What has been the biggest standout moment in your musical career so far?

NYE was pretty special,playing before MK at a sold out Rock City in Nottingham. However Pete Tong premiering my track 'The Promise' is by far the biggest achievement. His show is iconic to me and for him to be supporting my tracks is amazing! 

6. What can we expect from The Golden Boy in the rest of 2015?

Plenty of new tunes and remixes so watch this space! I'm of to Croatia to play at Soundwave festival & i'm also the main resident for the Colorfest which sees me play in Birmingham, Cardiff & Newquay.

7. With the huge resurgence in house music over the past 2 years, where do you see the next big dance music trend coming from?

I think it wont go away in hurry. However, I do think the gap between Underground and commercial music may shink even more than it has already with even more house music in the charts. Lets just hope there will still be amazing parties with good people involved!
