Hip-Hop Classic #6: Lords Of The Underground - Tic Toc (Chosen by Yasmin)

'Tic Toc' is the lead single from Lords Of The Underground's sophmore album, Keepers Of Funk, which was released in 1994 on Pendulum Records. Although the album wasn't as successful as their debut release, Here Come The Lords, it still gained some success by making it to #57 on the Billboard 200, #16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and going down as a classic in most Hip-Hop lovers' eyes. The album was produced by Marley Marl, K-Def, LOTU and Andre Booth, allowing the group to create a uniquely raw Hip-Hop sound that will never be heard or bettered again. 1994 was THAT year - throw ya hands in the air.
Yasmin: "When I started DJing I came across Lords Of The Underground after being given the Pete Rock remix of 'Flow On' - I was drawn to their mad energy and funky flows. I did a bit of digging and got my hands on 'Here Come The Lords' and 'Keepers Of Funk'. Tic Toc is my favourite track from them, always love spinning it and there's MAD old school Hip-Hop lyrics in there!!!"
Favourite Lyric: "I go on beat off beat then jump right on time I drop another rhyme and talk about yo fat ugly mama!"
