Tyler, The Creator - She (Feat. Frank Ocean) x Nightmare
Now I had a bit of a Twitter rant about Odd Future the other day, but thought I would save my true opinions until I had heard Tyler's new album, Goblin. Having listened to it twice now, my thoughts haven't changed much. I love what they're doing for the game, but a lot of it is purely hype and the fact that it's a bunch of young men not caring about anything, or anyone. Tyler is a decent rapper, but the beats (bar a couple) are not for me and throughout the album there is far too much swearing. It's not like I'm against swearing, especially in Hip-Hop, but when you're using "fuck" every other word, then I'm worrying for you as a lyricist. The album is pretty enjoyable (was more enjoyable than expected if anything), and I'm sure I will be listening to it more over the next few weeks, but I don't think it's anything to get overly excited about (just like his debut album). I'm sure it will go down as a piece of history, but I really don't think it has the crudentials to be classed as a classic. Below are the two stand out tracks for me (Frank Ocean is exceptional), but Yonkers still steals the show.
Odd Future became boring as quickly as Charlie Sheen did, unfortunately.
