Porter Robinson - Unison (Knife Party Remix)

Released earlier today (September 13th), here is one of my favourite pieces from the highly anticipated full debut release from Porter Robinson and Skrillex's label, OWSLA. As you would expect from any signee of Skrillex's, Porter has a very unique and bass heavy sound, but his production still remains thoughful and ahead of the game - add in Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen's electro-house input, and you have this little beauty. You can support both Porter and Skrillex by purchasing the EP in its entirety, HERE - a definite must have.

R.I.P. DJ Mehdi

There has been no official statement yet, but earlier today Ed Banger Records have confirmed that DJ Mehdi has passed away. Over the past 15 years the Frenchman remained relatively underground, but the influence he and his music has had on Electronic music as a whole is simply incredible. He has an exceptional back catalogue of his own and has collaborted with the likes of Daft Punk, Cassius, MC Solaar, Chromeo and many more; pushing the boundaries, mixing Hip-Hop and Electronic music better than anyone else, creating the most beautiful disco-infused material that has become the sound of French Electronic music. The cause of his death is unknown, but there reports are that he fell to his death from a roof - my thoughts go out to everyone at Ed Banger Records, his family and of course his beautiful wife, Fafi. Below are two of my favourite Mehdi remixes from the past few years - forever missed.

UPDATE: DJ Mag are reporting that he was on the roof of his home in Paris with a group of friends celebrating the birthday of Riton, his partner in Carte Blanche, when the roof collapsed. A number of others are reported to have been seriously injured in the tragic accident. Riton, aka Henry Smithson, is said to be the only person not to have fallen through the roof.

Mark de Clive-Lowe - The Why (Feat. Nia Andrews)

Here is the lead single from Mark de Clive-Lowe's upcoming album, RENEGADES, which features vocals from the beautiful Nia Andrews and strings from the legendary composer/producer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. You can cop the single on October 3rd, on an EP which includes a Maddslinky remix and a MdCL club mix. This guy is one of my favourite finds of 2011.

Ben Westbeech - Same Thing

My favourite track from Ben Westbeech's sophmore album There's More To Life Than This, which was released today on Strictly Rhythm. Produced by Chocolate Puma, this piece of funky/soulful House is just a sample of what you can come to expect from one of the albums of the year. Buy HERE and read my review HERE.

Wretch 32 - Don't Go (Feat. Josh Kumra) (Star One Remix)

Here is my favourite remix from Star One's Freemixes EP, which follows on from their work with Ministry of Sound/Island Records, and during a time where they have been garnering support from influential DJ’s such as MistaJam, DJ Yoda and Oneman. The pair are now set to release ‘The Star-One EP’ on the 26th September through Carrot Records, but first you can download this EP which sees Chase and Status, Jamie Woon and Wretch 32 all get the Star One remix treatment that fuses Garage, Grime and House elements with their trademark use of chopped samples and subtle basslines. Download HERE.

The SoniXx - Paris Dreams

The SoniXx is best known for his straight up Dubstep production, but yesterday he took to his SoundCloud to post this lovely Electro-House number, which still keeps the Dubstep elements that have made him one of my favourite new producers. A really cool/unique sound, and another big free download for you to pick up below.

The Weeknd - Thursday (David Dann Remix)

A sick little progressive House remix of the title track from The Weeknd's latest mixtape, which comes courtesy of New York-born producer David Dann. His debut album 'Wristbands And Alcohol' is on the way, but for now you can enjoy this little beauty and grab your free download HERE.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Atlas Hands (Kashii Remix)

Here is Kashii's smashing rework of Benjamin Francis Leftwich's latest single, Atlas Hands. Have only recently discovered BFL, and know very little about Kashii, but you can be sure that I'll be doing my research after hearing this little beauty. You can pruchase this, along with the original and a remix from Mike Skinner, over on iTunes NOW!

Real Scenes: Berlin

Real Scenes: Berlin from Resident Advisor on Vimeo.

For the third edition of Real Scenes, Resident Advisor and Bench go to one of the most special places for electronic music in the world: Berlin. When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, techno became the underground soundtrack to the reunion between East and West. In recent years, it's become an international destination for ravers - a cheap place to party with clubs that are renowned throughout the world. Techno has become a business in the meantime, yet Berlin still maintains a credibility that other cities lack. To understand why, RA and Bench went to the German capital eager to find out about its unique history and the reasons behind its continued relevance. Visit the feature page on Resident Advisor. Sick mini-documentary.
