Here are two of my favourite tracks from Chase & Status’ second album, No More Idols. More Than Alot will forever be an all-time classic, but this record shows the diversity Will and Saul have in their music and how far they have come as producers over the past 3 years. Very early in the year to make a statement like this, but I really can’t see any producers having a stronger album than this all year - if so, then it’s gonna have to be really special. The first track is Brixton Briefcase which features the legendary Cee-Lo, and the second track is Fool Yourself which features Plan B & their tour MC, Rage. So yeah, if you want my advice, go and get yourself a copy on Monday morning - you will not be disappointed.
Following on from his critically acclaimed Humble EP’s, Drum & Bass producer Marcus Visionary has released the highly anticipated Humble LP, which really has blown me away. Featuring Goldstar, this track is simply one of the most incredible pieces of music I have ever heard. If more Drum & Bass/Jungle was like this then it would definitely be one of my favourite genres. The way he has used the John Legend sample is pure genius. Skank?
How about a lovely Drum & Bass mix? Well, here is the latest one from the extremely talented DJ/Producer, Seb Weingartshofer, who is 1/3rd of D&B trio SupraDNB and co-owner of Regal Records. The first mix of the year, and my first ever recorded three deck mix. Decided to go in hard and energetic to start with, leading on to a bit of darker heavy basslines then finishing on some easy liquid mixing. Here is a new remix from the Murkage Cartel off their Warm-Up Riddims project and as was heard on DJ Target’s show the other night, courtesy of sapnarella. From championing Dubstep and recreating the grimy Garage scenes of their youth, to rocking sweaty-heady-sleazy fashion parties in the noughties, Murkage have always expressed a unique creativity and philosophy through music.
